  Thallus thin, plane, continuous or dispersed-verrucose to verruculose, whitish to yellowish white or whitish grey, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus whitish. Apothecia sessile to slightly constricted at the base, 0.6–1.8 mm diam.; disc blackish brown, epruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thick, entire, ±verruculose to verrucose. Cortex hyaline, ±gelatinous, c. 25 µm thick laterally and 25–30 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large and small crystals; small crystals soluble in KOH (melacarpella-type). Parathecium hyaline, c. 10 µm thick, with numerous small crystals soluble in KOH. Epihymenium medium to dark brown, c. 10–15 µm thick, K–, lacking crystals (glabrata-type). Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 9.5–15.5 × 5.5–8.5 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; containing atranorin (major), zeorin (major), ±chloroatranorin (minor) and unidentified terpenes (traces).
     
  Occurs on exposed, siliceous rocks in somewhat humid, coastal sites or near streams and rivulets in eastern Qld and N.S.W. Also in Lord Howe Is., Norfolk Is., northern New Zealand and, possibly, India.
